Kek Lapis Sarawak - Masam Manis

My very first kek lapis Sarawak turns out well yeyyy!!!! BUT (mine the big cap hehe) it took me a good 6 hours in the kitchen just to finish up layering the whole cakes. My oh my, i keep on telling myself, why am i deciding to do this cake in the first place??? Sakit pinggang, sakit kaki, siap bersandar tepi dinding dan tido, sempat mandikan Ammar, feed him, had few rounds of breastfeeding...huhhh memacam lagilah. I started as early as 7.30am, and only managed to have these specialty cakes around 2.30pm..just imagine u ols, kalau tido dah boleh termimpi-mimpi dahhhh!!

Anyway, the recipe was given by mak (i.e. my MIL). I weigh each layer around 80g to get that equal size. Since i still hv few leftover for the batter, decided to alter the recipe a bit and made a cocoa mocha layer cake....hehehe taste good as well, at least to my liking lahh :)

Oklah, enjoy the pics...takdela cun sgt, for a beginner kan! If i can recalled this evening i vowed that this will be my first n the last kek lapis! Next yr beli sajela..but after i had that first bite after iftar, hmmmm probably i'm willing to give it another go next time...penat yg memang berbaloi-baloi!!!

Tadaaaaa...my very own Cocoa Mocha Layer Cake :) A combination of mocha emulco, chocolate emulco n cocoa powder, with lil bit of yellow and brown coloring for the layers


slice the cakes into two, and layer it with peanut butter & grape...hehe sukahati wat kek lapis version sendiri :p


from the looks, i know there're lots more to improve betul tak? :p

brownies...the 5th and 6th of the week!

yg ni utk jiran depan rumah lagi...ptg semlm dia sms, mlm tadi terus buat. TQ Misah!!



and the 6th one for Tini..my ex-colleague/ofismate, cum loyal customer of myHotStove..tq babes!


I am running out of banana and sugar already. My jiran depan rumah requested for a 2nd order last night, but i tell her i will only able to make another round for her this evening, provided kedai runcit tu still has stocks for pisang berangan :p

Ramai dah cuti, i know i know. Badan masih di ofis, tapi mind and soul jauh melayang fikir Raya :p Tomorrow shall be a very busy day for us, spring cleaning the whole house, packing, baking, sweeping and mooping, everything lahhhh!

To all my fellow friends and lovely readers out there, Salam Lebaran kepada semua. Berhati-hati yer pulang ke kampung halaman tu. Makan puas2, tapi jgn over sangat. Rebutlah peluang ni utk bermaaf-maafan, dan berjalan ke rumah sanak saudara. Moga anda semua bahagia dan happy di Hari Raya nanti yer.

brownies again!

Secara tak rasmi myHotStove kembali beroperasi..tak sangka plak secepat ini hihi. I thought mood rajin akan menjelma bila Ammar dah besar sket...probably after 1 year. Tapi minat & satisfaction punyer pasal...layanzz sajerlah :)

and the one with yellow ribbon, for the kids' teachers at taska. Dulu2 slalu blanjer depa buka puasa with pizza or kfc..taun ni kasik home-made brownies, harap derang suke :)


Anyway, bila mood baking menjelma, mood memasak dah merudum. Kelmarin dah dua hari berturut-turut tapau luar. Mula2 order Dominos, then kelmarin hb tapau nasi arab Saba' dua bungkus..satu ayam, satu lamb...kenyang giler alhamdulillah, siap simpan utk sahur :)

Fruitful yet a tiring weekend

1. My lil Ammar turns 6m this weekend. He starts solid on Saturday, in which i made for him a plain porridge (no salt, no nothing, only rice hehe), blended to its finest texture. He doesnt seems to like it, probably due to its plain n dull taste (hoho!), but overall i think he kinds of enjoying this first experience. The next day i made some apple puree and mix it with the porridge and walllahhh, he enjoyed every bits of it :p Ini budak suke mkn manis2 nampaknye! (ke mana tumpahnya kuah kalau tidak ke nasi hihi).

I am one big boy already! Sudah meniarap dan angkat2 badan...dan suke sgt menjerit!!


2. Baked this plain cheesecake with ganache...one for Tini, another one for us of course wink wink* Dapatlah kasi jiran depan rumah sket...kira settle hutang dgn Tini dan jiran :p. I woke up at 2.30am to prepare the cake, and slept right after subuh. While waiting the cakes in the oven, i managed to fold 2 big baskets of clothes, and do some ironing...gigih seh!!

3. We started to potty train Firas this weekend. Overall summary, accident 3x atas pelapik kaki, seluar tukar 3-4x, ulang-alik ke toilet for so many times i lost count already (dia sgt suke pegi toilet sbb nak main air sama), but in conclusion i think he's doing great so far. Dia suke 'pee' sikit2...jadi kerap la pegi toilet. There was a time when i was upstair trying to put Ammar into sleep, and guess what...Firas buang air besar dan si Abang yg tolong basuh!!! hehe bagusnya abang Idlan ni yg mama bangga nih :) Anyway abah tiada di rumah semasa kejadian sebab pegi ofis.

4. Our pond-refurbishment project almost 90% completed. Abah sudah 'shelek' balik kayu tu, cuci kolam, dan susun batu.

Berkilat balik...nampak cam baru kan? credits to abah!!!

Batu kecil cuma letak atas air pancut tu, batu dalam kolam dikeluarkan balik...senang sket time nak basuh dan tukar air kolam tu nanti. Abah kata nanti nak beli fish letak dlm tu.


railway station dan 6 pcs of stepping stones. Later abah akan arrange batu2 kecil putih dan kelabu utk buat border di keliling pond ni...so that's the remaining 10% of the incomplete works :p

Cheesecake with ganache

Kes lepas geram sebab blackforest tak jadi. So i made some effort to bake this plain cheesecake, which later was topped with ganache. Puas dpt mkn kek hasil air tangan sendiri...lama dah tak buat cheesecake kan :) Kiranye this was my first cheesecake of the year 2011 hoho..ala-ala kick off gitew :p


The assorted chocolate shapes were first meant to deco the blackforest cake, tapi dah blackforest tak jadi..belasah letak atas kek ni

kids will always being kids...yg first diterkam adalah choc shapes tu la!

3 slices dah selamat ngapp...si firas pulun coklat ketul tu je kek langsung tak layan huhu

Ok next time mama tetap nak buat blackforest...kali ni kena make sure sponge cake tu menjadi kalau tidak rugi sebab guna telur banyak wooo!

no Blackforest no nothing!

Sengaja ambil cuti hari ni utk merehatkan minda dari kerja2 ofis, lagipun cuti masih banyak berbaki (gosipppp --> dgr kata tahun depan tak boleh carry forward leave hoho). Seperti biasa, kalau mama cuti, antara aktiviti wajib yg dilakukan adalahhhhhhhhh....pergi ke Yummie dan baking!!! :)

Konon nak buat blackforest cake, sebab esok nak pergi rumah nek Umi...dan kek blackforest ni mmg favourite nek Umi. Lagipun ada setin blackforest elok terperam dlm laci kabinet yg dibeli sejak tahun lepas kuikui....kes tak sempat guna sebab dah deliver Ammar :p

Untuk kek tu, mama beli sponge cake mix perisa coklat. Ikut instruction cuma perlu tambah telur, minyak jagung/melter butter, dan air. Campur sahaja kesemuanya dan bakar. Tapi anda tahu apa jadi dengan kek mama? bantat okay!!! Tak spongy, tidak berongga langsung! Cuma 1/2 of the cake yg cantik elok naik macam kek span, the rest macam kuih bingka, padat giler (ok jgn gelak yerrrr). Iskkk tension giler mama, rasa pun fail. So kek tu mama buang terus...tak selera nak makan. Gambar? iskkk of course tak teringat nak snap sebab geram punya pasal. Tak tahulah apa yg silap kali ni. Ni bukan first time beli cake mix ni. Dulu pun pernah beli ok jer nothing went wrong. Sedih sangat. Dahla time buat kek tu mama siap call nek Umi cakap 'esok dik nur nak bawak kek blackforest'. Ha itulah sape suruh declare awal-awal...sekali kek tak jadi malu sajerkk...frust macik tau huhu (dahla membazir telur 9 biji plak tu!).

Sampai sekarang masih terkilan. Mau tidaknya, mama dah siap buat coklat hiasan bentuk love , daun, sea shell, flower, corn, etc semata-mata utk letak kat atas kek. Alih-alih kek nya tidak jadi...so coklat ketul2 tu elok je menjadi santapan kekanak berdua tu petang tadi hoho

Muffin coklat tanpa telur

Siapa kata anak teruna tak pandai masuk ke dapur?
Jangan main-main, anak sulung mama Muhammad Idlan Farhan sekarang ni sudah pandai basuh pinggan tau (walaupun punyalah lama dia main air :p).
Dan si teruna kedua Muhammad Amir Firas memang selalu jadi peneman setia mama di dapur. Dia sukalah tengok mama basuh pinggan, masak, goreng itu ini, dan yang pasti, bila mama busy buat kek dia pun pasti akan ada sekali.

Petang tadi mama buat muffin ekspress. Bukan guna muffin mix yer kengkawan, tapi teruja nak try resepi sempoi ni lepas tgk kawan mama (mama yg rajin dlm pantang sape lagi kalau bukan auntie Farra) buat muffin coklat tanpa telur. Resepi sangat mudah, dan yang paling best, tak payah guna mixer..semua kacau guna tangan saja. Bahan-bahan pun sikit jer. Kesimpulannya buat tak sampai 20 minit dah siap! Sesuai sangatlah bagi beginner, atau pun mereka yg kesuntukan masa tapi teringin sgt nak makan kek (mama lah tu hehe). Dan rasanya, usah gusar ye, walaupun tiada telur tapi rasa tetap mantop! Fluffy dan gebu tekstur dia :)


Bancuhan ikut resepi asal sangat cair, jadi mama tambah tepung gandum sikit

Ni yg mahal ni...my eldest two yg tolong taburkan choc chips (cc) atas muffin tu. Si Firas punyela letak byk giler cc, siap marah bila abang dia curi cc tu dan makan :p

Komen saya:

-resipi sedikit cair, sila tambah tepung sikit, in fact sukatan minyak dan air pun saya kurangkan ikut instinct sendiri hehe

- brown sugar 2 cups tu mungkin byk sgt, kurangkan menjadi 1.75 cups sahaja ok

Rindu pada kek!

Mama dan kek memang tidak dapat dipisahkan, kata orang...ibarat lagu dan irama gitu. Membuat kek ibarat satu terapi yang sangat indah, paling best bila kek masih di dalam oven dan aroma dia menusuk ke hidung...wahh time tu memang terasa tidak sabar mau ngap! Tetapi paling tidak best, hahh proses membasuh segala peralatan kek selesai sudah membuatnya...tapi kata orang, alah bisa tegal biasa, kalau malas basuh terus biarkan sahaja dia di dalam sink dan boleh basuh bila penat lelah buat kek sudah hilang hihi.
Dannnn kenapa mama suka buat kek? Kerana saya seorang peminat kek sejati, kasilah saya apa jua jenis kek, pasti anda tidak menyesal kerana dalam sekelip mata saya boleh habiskan! Ehh tapi masih ada exception, mama tidak berani makan kek keladi, kek perisa nangka, kek durian...hmm tu je kot perisa yg dikecualikan dari tekak ini, yg lain saya hentam saja :) Dannn yang kedua, kerana suami mama juga sangat suka makan kek, especially kek hasil air tangan isteri dia (ewahhhh).
Sebenarnya mama teringin sangat nak buat kek hari ini, tapi malangnya suami mama ada course di Monash, jadi bila mama cuma tinggal berempat dengan anak2, confirm mama tak dapat nak spend masa lama-lama di dapur mengadap mixer, tepung, gula dan sebagainya. Jadi untuk melepaskan rindu dendam terhadap kek, kita layan sajalah gambar2 lama kek yang pernah mama buat dulu...hukhukk aku rindu sama kek-kek ku!!

fresh fruit clan - yg ni dulu mama buat utk besday nek Umi. Umi tak suka choc cake, jadi dlm tu adalah vanilla sponge cake, dan dihiasi dgn fresh cream, peach dan blueberry. Kalau anda punya budget yg besar, bolehlah letak apa jua buah-buahan fresh di atas tu...kiwi, strawberry, anggur, etc. Dapat imagine tak?? haaa lazat kan!!

Hahhh this will always be our all-time favourite, apa lagi jika bukan blueberry cheese cake. Tengok blueberry yg meleleh di tepi kek tu pun dah buat air liur mama meleleh sekarang ni hukhuk

Ini adalah plain cheesecake, dihiasi dgn chocolate ganache yg lazat ituuu + strawberry +
choc curls. Lelehan choc ganache itu memang sgt mengancam :)


last but not least, my Premium choc moist cake. Kenapa premium? sbb ada fresh cream, ada choc ganache, ada strawberry, ada grated choc di tengah & keliling kek, dannn ada choc chips di tepi. Strawberry gemuk2 tu jenama Driscolls...sangatlah gemuk (mama lagi prefer Korean strawberry tapi kadang out of stock).
Jadi sekarang ni anda rasa yang mana satu kek yg paling mama rindu sekali???

Muffin Coklat

Baru selesai membuat ekspres muffin coklat, kenapa ekspres sebab guna muffin mix yg dibeli dari Yummie Bangi. Teringat zaman dulu, masa mula-mula nak menjinakkan diri dalam dunia baking, selalulah pergi ke Bake With Yen di Puchong untuk beli muffin mix ni. Tapi bila dah pandai cari resepi sendiri dari internet, mama dah tak pandang la mix ni lagi :p

Hari ni, buat kesekian kalinya mama terpaksa buat muffin guna mix, pastinya sebab kekangan masa dan perkara lain yg lebih penting perlu dibuat dan diselesaikan. Senang guna mix ni, campak2 dan pukul sekejap je, terus siap.

Bahan2:
muffin mix 500g
egg 200g (lebih kurang 4 biji telur size A, mama guna size B, so bila timbang jadi 220g)
water 100g
corn oil 180g
choc chip 90g

Caranya:
Masukkan kesemua bahan, pukul rata dalam 5-10 minit, kemudian boleh terus masukkan campuran ke dalam cup. Choc chip tu jangan dipukul yer, gaul sahaja dlm campuran muffin tadi.
Bakar pada suhu 180 celcius, 15-20 minit bergantung kpd oven anda.

Mix sudah siap, jadi masukkan saja choc chips tu dan gaul rata.

Boleh tambah choc chips extra di atas muffin utk rasa yg lebih umpph, kanak-kanak pasti suka!

Hot from the oven! Nak rasa extra coklat lagi, silalah cari Hershey's chocolate syrup dan siram ke atas muffin anda....wowiiee sangat sedap!!

Muffin ni mama saja buat utk dibawa bekal utk perjalanan pulang ke kedah esok pagi. Jalan jauh, mesti kena spare makanan banyak2 dalam kereta betul tak? Niat di hati teringin nak buat marble chocolate cheese brownies, tapi bila fikir banyak benda nak kena settlekan hari ni, lupakanlah niat tu dulu. Esok bila Ammar dah besar, insya Allah nak mengaktifkan diri kembali ke dunia baking!

productive weekend

So far it has been quite a productive day. As at 1.10pm i've done with the laundry, vacuum, mopping & cleaning the toilet. Lunch is done as well, simple je chicken mushroom black pepper and sayur masak lemak. Now is the time for streching up sambil berFBing yer :)

Dah siap, cuma ada mushroom & tomato....capsicum di tesco sumer macam dah layu-layuan :p


Blueberry oreo cheesecake. Dalam tu ada quartered oreo biscuits seperti yg diminta oleh si tuan yg order. It's for Ecah/Sha...katanya dia kawan kepada si Aida dan Aini, dan slalu nampakku di An Nur dulu2 tapi tak pernah bertegur sapa. Dia cakap dah lama nak order cheesecake dari ku....tapi sejak ku operate Ogos last year, hinggalah sekarang dah lama tak bukak email Hot Stove. Bila Sha sms kata dia ada email...baru la ku jenguk email tu yg dah penuh semak samun :p Gembira betul Sha bila ku setuju nak buat cheesecake utk dia...gaya dia tulis dalam email tu macam excited sangat2. To Sha, kalau sedap kek ni alhamdulillah...kalau tak sedap akak mintak maaf...senyap2 udah la eh hehehhe

Productive weekend :)


Start off the morning at 7am and managed to have these for breakfast...roti jala+kari ayam

Sambal kering bilis & tempe+telur dadar+kari ayam for lunch.
Hubby kata sambal sedap ngeeee....so puasa nanti boleh buat stock byk2 dan simpan, pasti berselera waktu bersahur :)


Cheesecake stuffed with loads of choc chip c/w oreo base - prepared last night while hubby was watching World Cup


And today, the overnight chilled cheesecake is topped with blueberry and loads of mini choc/strawberry chips. Yummieh!! My first intention was to bake a strawberry cake, but the fillings and fresh strawberry were out of stock, both at Yummie & Tesco. So blueberry cake it was!

Inspired by Farra, i continue to 'puasa ganti' today (tgh sahur ni hehe), though today is Saturday where we usually hang out and dine outside. But that's ok, at least that sorts of encourage us to just stay at home and lepak2 sajer. My 'hutang' was like doubled than farra's, and i do not wish to add more to it. If you can recall it's my #1 resolution for this year, how i wish i can maintain and be persistent towards achieving the goal. So far i'm doing good, health-wise pun alhamdulillah ok, no gastrics pain and whatnots.

Oh by the way it's going to be idlan's first english class today at the smart reader. Yesterday hubby got him a new ben 10 schoolbag, and a set of stationaries...that should acts as a booster i guess :p I just can't wait to see how he'll progress throughout the session, hope he'll be doing fine with the friends and teachers. To us it's not so much about the learning, we just want him to feel the 'change' as what he requested, to explore and experience new things in life.
Hmm this 2kg chocolate moist was made for Izzul yesterday, to be celebrated with his friends at the tadika. Happy Belated 5th Birthday Izzul!

Abah turns 29!

Actually not today, but tomorrow insya Allah (3rd May). But since we'll be going for a one day getaway @ Melaka tomorrow, we had the pre-celebration i.e. cake-cutting in advance. Thought of cutting it today, but idlan just couldn't stop asking when can 'he' cuts the cake. Before any of the berries go missing, i'd better snap the pics quickly :p

To B, Happy Birthday to you! Thank you for being at my side, during my ups and downs, throughout our nearly 6 yrs of marriage. I'll always pray for your success, here and thereafter. May Allah bless you with good health and life all yr round. We all luv you beribu-ribu lemon muahsss!!!

baking class

Penat banget dan tak cukup masa!
That’s what I can conclude from last Saturday’s baking class @ Yummie.
From 1030am up till 545pm, brape jam tu berdiri lenguh2 kaki rasa.
Pergi solat pon cepat2, pump pon cepat2, lunch pon express giler…sumer gara2 excited nak blajar!
Tapi overall, mmg puas hati even tho class tak cover covering big cake with fondant.

So ape yg ku blajar from Chef Asma?
Buat butter cupcake, buttercream icing, royal icing, fresh fondant, coloring fondant, covering fondant cup cakes, gum paste, and last but not least, cara2 wat gum paste flowers. Tang tu makan paling byk masa…yela sumer tak expert, terkial2 nak buat bunga walaupun sekuntum :p

Pepe pon, ilmu still tak cukup…dan aku still tak konfiden nak buat fondant wedding cake. Rasanye kena pegi class khas utk cover fondant cake sahaja…baru puas! Chef Asma cuma ajar cover cup cake with fondant…tu pon cupcake ku tak kemas, and ade fondant yg terpecah hehehe. Padanla org charge mahal utk wedding cake…nak buatnyer, mak aiii penuh dgn seni dan kena extra careful nak menghandle fondant itu! Memang kena ade patience and passion..kalo idak confirm takkan menjadi :p


Anyway, class harga RM180...agak murah compared to other classes yg pernah ku survey before this.
Sape minat bley mintak full class schedule dari Yummie...bulan March nyer schedule belum kluar lagi kots.

Dan ni adelah my latest baking tool...gum paste tool set tu rege nyer RM143.50...mahal bangets kan?? anyway sume barang2 Wilton mmg mahal :p Rasanye so far i've spent more than thousand for baking tools...tu belum masuk kalo nak upgrade oven wink wink* Hopefully satu masa nanti boley la ROI balik sumer cost2 yg dah di spent kan ini :) Tool set tu baru guna sket...actually ku sendiri tak brape paham lagi function for each tool...beli semata2 utk class ni tau hoho. Tunggula bila ade masa baru bley explore...nak wat gum paste flower kena duk dediam sehari suntuk belek benda tuh je...tak bley ade intervention...idak for sure payah nak concentrate :p
